The numbers of Americans using the Amazon Kindle reader these days just keeps on increasing. The 3rd generation reader seems like the most popular model to date. Everything it does, it does well. The screen is very crisp, with a great contrast and is easy to read. Users of this device can also store more books than they could possibly read in a year on the handset itself. The battery life is fantastic as well and gives you enough power to read for one month (as long as you keep the 3g function turned off).
So when the Kindle 4 comes out, will it be a good idea to upgrade your hand held reader? For many users, the answer is going to be yes. A lot of us like to own the latest versions of various products just to have them and so that we have the best that is available. The thing is, the Kindle 3 is already a great product so if we replace it with the Kindle 4, what will become of our 3rd generation readers? Many of them will just start gathering dust. This is a bit of a waste.
Of course, giving it away to a family member or friend is one option. There is another thing that you might want to consider and it is something that I am giving more thought to myself these days. Instead of buying a color Kindle 4, why not choose to purchase a color Kindle DX handset instead? In this case, the upgrade is not a direct replacement so you will still be able to use your Kindle 3 as well.
It will depend upon what you are planning on doing. If you need to have the most portable handset, you could use the 3rd generation reader. Then for luxury reading and for all your color reading needs, the Kindle DX with its larger screen would be the best choice.
